Search engine marketing rules

How can I keep up to date with the latest search engine marketing rules?

The search engines and directories all have general guidelines on their own sites. So it's important to bookmark those pages and revisit them every month to see if they've added new information.

Here are some current URLs to monitor:

I have listed some excellent links in my Links & Resources page. But if I had to choose my top resources:

  1. Actual search engine pages
  2. A subscription to Search Engine Watch
  3. Annual attendance to Search Engine Strategies conferences
  4. About.com also has a Web Search Guide

Forums are great, except there is a lot of misinformation being propogated in them. So proceed with caution. If you're lucky, a search engine representative will contribute to the discussion.

I know that bookmarking pages, reading weekly or monthly digests, etc. is time-consuming. But it's necessary if you want to stay on top of the search engine game. Though I have to admit, principles don't change. As long as your web site follows basic usability and information retrieval principles, it should not have any problems receiving qualified search engine traffic.
